Disruption of the aflatoxin biosynthesis cluster gene aflY
(hypA) gave Aspergillus parasiticus transformants that
accumulated versicolorin A. This gene is predicted to encode the
Baeyer-Villiger oxidase necessary for formation of the xanthone
ring of the aflatoxin precursor demethylsterigmatocystin.
